Education:

1965 BS, Electrical Engineering, New Mexico State University

Biography:

Upon graduation from NMSU, where he was active in honorary societies and other campus organization, he was commissioned in the US Air Force and served four years, three in Germany. He was twice awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. After discharge from the service he joined Bell System's Long Lines Division as a Staff Supervisor. Petty advanced through different aspects of AT&T's operations and served in managerial positions around the nation. He is a 1983 graduate of Harvard's Advanced Management Program.

He was recognized as the College of Engineering Distinguished Alumnus in 1986, and also, recognized in the 100 Outstanding Alumni in 1988.
